So much to see

I've been taking lots of photos lately.  Spring has definitely sprung in Florida!  The weather has been a comfortable 70's for the past week.  This weekend will cool off a bit in the mid 60's.

Here's a sunset I captured from my back yard this past week:

The kids and I went to the beach for a little bit one day last week while they had spring break.  I had started my new job but wanted to give them some activities.  (Although, sadly - they were just as content staying home in front of electronics!)

My new job has been a blessing.  My managers are amazing God-filled people and their business is booming!  They oversee manufacturing of their patented product:  Spiker Lifestyle Holders.  They gave me one and I HAD to try it out when we went to the beach.  Loved it!  It was great keeping my beverage sand-free!  They also hold cell phones, mp3s/ipods, sunscreen, etc.

I promised photos yesterday of goodies I made for the Ladies' monthly fellowship at the church.  These 3 below gifts are for the pastors' wives.  I wanted to give them an extra special goody.  I'm sure Easter is a very busy time and they don't see their husbands often with all that is going on in the life of the church.  Here is some chocolate for them!

I will post photos of the other table decorations / goodies this weekend so check back in a couple of days.  TGIF!

Spring is officially here

I've been busy making Easter cards and goodies lately.  Our church has a Ladies' fellowship once a month and I volunteered to do table decorations for March.  The first one I attended last month had about 40 in attendance.  It was a relaxing evening sharing appetizers and being in the company of other christian women.

This is what I came home with from last month.  I thought it was wonderful how they "up cycled" and used the cartons for the flower pot (filled with a Bible verse and jelly beans).

I'll post pictures of my creation tomorrow.  Here's a photo of a woodpecker too that I snapped.  I thought he was literally going to snap my bird feeder when he visited it.  He was huge!  See you tomorrow!

St. Patty's Day

I had hoped to make a fun supper for my kids with it being St. Patrick's Day.  Green pancakes, green milk...etc.  Then I got a job and had my first day today - so needless to say, I was proud of myself for at least planning ahead and putting soup in the crockpot.  The green idea never transpired past the concept where I pinned onto my shirt today "I'm irish."

I was thinking back today about our amazing vacation last year to Ireland.  I imagined the whole country celebrating.  Mc this and Mc that...it made me smile.

Below are a couple of cards Annette and I made in planning ahead for today's holiday.  We were trying out her new die cut that included poles, pennants and lanterns.

I'd write more, but my brain feels a bit mushy after getting a work out today.  Irish blessings to you!

I've never been a math nerd whiz by any means.  My husband is the brains in this family when it comes to the sciences and I'm envious of his ability to solve problems almost instantaneously out of thin air.  I know my son (9th grader) feels the same way I do and this 3rd nine weeks of school was a test of all of our math skills!  (Thank goodness we can put it behind us and hope the last nine weeks are easier).

Today, March 14th, is National Pi Day.  Yes, I'm spelling it correctly (English is my forte) as I'm referring to the math "Pi" of 3.14.  Pi was invented in 1706 by mathematician from Wales ( yeah!  I've been there, lol!)

This is an especially exciting time for those math peeps as not only does it fall on a Saturday (once every 100 years) but when written out today is 31415.  AND...are you ready for this?  At 9:26 (and 53 seconds) a.m. today, it will include the first 10 digits that are used in Pi!  I do agree that it's pretty cool.  I found all this information HERE (see, I'm still a good person in citing my sources!  hahaha)

We had company last night for supper.  I wanted to make pie, but didn't have all the ingredients in my house.  So I made cupcakes instead.  The cupcakes served two purposes as they're also green velvet (love it!) which goes in conjunction with St. Patrick's Day coming up soon.  Hey, they're still in a circle shape which involves Pi!  :)

Here are my cupcakes.  I tried to make some of them more of the whoopee pie style.  Plus, it's easier to eat those and not get icing up your nose!

Today would be an excellent excuse if you need one to indulge and treat yourself to pie.  Go ahead, indulge!

Cheep cheap cha-ching

Last week I was able to squeeze in some crafting with Annette.  We made these adorable little chick candy holders. I was "pin-spired" by this video and we had fun making them.  I think the rock-style hair says it all!

Annette, Karen and I went to Destin today to the Outlet Mall.  I must be CHEAP because those prices were not what I consider "outlet" prices.  Maybe I'm that out of the loop for knowing what regular prices should be, but sheesh!

On a final note, I had a job interview today that rocked and I'll finally be able to build back up my checking account.  Whew!

We can do better than that

I have been trying to find wall decor / art work for my kids' bathroom.  They share the bathroom and chose the colors red and black for towels, etc.  After a couple of months of looking (and seeing ridiculous prices for "art") I decided that we could do better.

I purchased 3 canvas boards and pulled out the acrylic paints.  I located the paintbrushes and encouraged the kids to put on their creative caps.  Off they went!  Here are the finished results.  The first photo is the art that my daughter made:

Here's the art my son made:

And since the canvas pack came with 3 in it, I wanted to paint too!  Here's mine.  I know it's framed, but I only had one frame and didn't want one of the kids to think I liked theirs more than another by framing it, so I framed mine.  It was fun making them and I like how the kids can see their art everyday.

A friend recently suffered the loss of a family member, and I wanted to give her a card.  Here's the card I made.  I attached the whole card stock to the "envelope" and it all opens up.  I was pleased with how it turned out:

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog!  I'm so excited that I have had OVER 18,000 page views.  It made my day!  See you again soon!

I've been working on some odds and ends lately.  Getting caught up on some things that I've been putting off.  For those of you who don't have sewing machine out all the time, you can understand the concept of making a pile.  And when the pile starts to get to you, you can work on many projects on the same day.  That's what I've been doing this week.

I fixed a handle on a bag and finally made Olivia a new cover for her Bible.  Thankfully I had done this once before (about 7 years ago) so it was nice to have a template.  She can't stand the color pink now, but when I made the first one, pink wasn't so bad.  I made sure to give her some bookmark ribbons (sewn in) and implemented a new concept I have seen on other items at Walmart.  It's an elastic closure.  I've seen these closures on notepads, diaries, etc., but never on a Bible cover.  Here's the before and after.  I'm pretty proud of myself!

I'm also working on some placemats (I'll post another day) and hope to put some stitching on cards before I put my sewing machine away.  Speaking of cards, I made one recently for my niece.  I saw this cute idea and decided it was fun and perfect for her:

It's nice to break up the monotony of making cards only...
After all, variety is the spice of life!  Oh that reminds me -- I need to go stir the chili on the stove and add some more cumin.  Yummy!  See you soon!

Sunny Florida

I spoke to my family over the weekend in Kansas and saw photos of the snow they have received.  I still can't believe we live in Florida!  It sounds like a dream...

I wanted to send some sunshine their way, but since it's not physically possible I made some cards that remind me of the sun.  (For the record, it is cloudy here today, lol).

The stationary purchased was a clearance item from Stamping' Up.  I decided that rather than mass produce like usual I would make them all unique.  (I have more stationary colors to choose from for another day too!)

Thanks for stopping by.  If you have a google account, be sure to "follow" my page.  Come and visit again soon!
