One more trip across the Channel

My daughter and I took another trip this past weekend. Our adventures led us to Brugge, Belgium.  One word can sum it up:  WOW!

Brugge had its first city walls built up around the 12th century.   You can read more about its history here.

I am truly inspired by this city.  Aside from being a tourist favorite, there is so much to see and do!  I think the highlight of the trip was a Michelangelo statue.

There were three large churches to visit.  One housed the statue, and all three churches were magnificent.  They had elaborate wood carvings, marble statues, tombs and crypts with old paintings, embroidered tapestries, and stained glass windows in abundance.

Not far from the main town centre (where you could catch a horse and carriage ride), is the Town Hall that was built in 1376.  The Gothic architecture took my breath away.

Below is a photo of the Basilica of the Precious Blood.  There is an upper and lower chapel.  The lower is definitely simple compared to the very ornate upper chapel.  In the upper chapel can be seen what is believed to be Christ's actual blood.  More can be read about it here.  Out of personal reasons, I did not pay to see this.  My friend did, and said it was well worth the 2 euro.

The journey would not have been complete without the waterway boat ride, waffles, and Belgium chocolate.  All of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Card club is Monday...check back soon for creativity!
